How to Volunteer: Carefully review the duty descriptions and note any required qualifications for the area you wish to volunteer.
Each volunteer must register individually. *Any group volunteering must register each person.
Once you have signed up for a shift you are automatically assigned to that shift. Feel free to sign up for as many volunteer duties as you wish throughout the day, but please do not sign up for two areas that require you to be at during the same time frame.
After you registeryour Ironman captain will contact you before August 30th to provide you with further information.
Run Portion Volunteer Opportunities:
Food Course Delivery: Duty includes driving the bike or run course and delivering food and beverage to volunteers along the course. Teams of two will use a vehicle (must provide vehicle) on the bike course and ATVs to navigate the run course (Ironman will provide). Extensive knowledge of the Madison area required.
Run Aid Station Special Needs: The special needs area is where the athletes have the option of receiving a bag they have packed themselves on the run portion of the race. Volunteer duties include; spotters that relay race number of approaching athletes to announcers with megaphones, announcers are stationed with megaphones to announce race numbers to bag finders. Bag finders will physically locate the appropriate bag and hand off to the bag givers. Bag givers will physically hand bags to athletes. This station is located near the capital square.
Run Course Marshals: The primary role is to "Point" the runners in the proper direction and to ensure athletes stay on the designated race course. You will be stationed at a turn, corner, or intersection along the run course to help direct the athletes to stay on the run course. Major intersections will have police support to direct vehicular traffic. Sunday race day availability is required. The day will be broken into different shifts for each area. **You will have the ability to sign up for a specific intersection when registering to volunteer. If you are unsure of the exact location of the intersection, you will receive more information and a map at a later date.
Run Aid Stations: Serve food and water to athletes at designated spots along the run course. Run aid stations are located at:

University St
Observatory Ave
State Street
UW Campus Lot 60
Capitol Square
Run Sag Wagon: The sag wagon picks up athletes that have dropped out of the race and need a ride to the Monona Terrace. Extensive knowledge of the run course and Madison streets required. A vehicle will be provided.
